A few flakes of snow--maybe?

A few flakes of snow--maybe?

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- I've already been hearing the questions. How much snow do you think we'll get? Of course, my response has been we're not going to get any snow. This is true as far as accumulating snowfall is concerned. But - I do think we'll see some sleet, rain, and a few snowflakes mixing together tonight mainly in our Northern Counties. This includes Marion, Winston, Cullman, Blount, Etowah, and Cherokee. The ground temperatures and air temperatures will be too warm for anything to stick around. For those who have friends and relatives in the Tennessee Valley - there may be some minor acccumulations near the Alabama and Tennessee border.

Forecast models are squeezing out the moisture, but we don't have the right temperatures for a Winter weather event.

How to file taxes on your own

How to file taxes on your own

By Sonu Purhar

The dread that surrounds the issue of taxes can be attributed
primarily to taxpayers' fear of the unknown. A surprising number remain
confused about basic tax knowledge, preferring instead to transfer full
ownership of their returns to a seasoned professional or computer
system.

Samford softball wins opener

DELAND, FL (WBRC)- Samford opened its 2012 softball campaign Friday at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, Fla., where the Bulldogs (1-0) earned a 4-0 victory over South Dakota (0-2).  Samford was set to play a second game against host team Stetson (1-0), but the game was called due to inclement weather after only three pitches.  A potential makeup date and time is still to be announced.

"It was a great team win" said Head Coach Mandy Burford in her Samford head coaching debut .  "From right out of the gate, they had great enthusiasm and effort and they had the will to win.  They were determined.  You could see it in their eyes that they would do whatever it took.

Valentine’s Day tech gifts for him and her

Valentine’s Day tech gifts for him and her

By Kelly Montgomery | Content provided by Digital Trends

Gifts are always tricky in relationships, and no holiday makes that more obvious than good old Valentine's Day. Standbys like jewelry, flowers, chocolates, and cards will usually do the trick, but if you really want to impress the one you love, we advise giving them something a little more thoughtful than a heart-shaped box of sugary sweets.

Valentine's gifts can be even scarier if the date comes in the beginning stages of a relationship. If you've only been dating a short time, giving her a diamond necklace  or  him plane tickets six months in advance could get you in trouble, or at least provoke an awkward moment. If you want your Valentine's Day celebration to have a tech spin, we've got you covered on both bases. We've narrowed down a long list to our favorite romantic tech gifts for every price range and stage of relationship. It's a no-brainer.

Hoover unwilling to let Jeffco out of contract

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- Hoover wants Jefferson County to keep up its end of a contract even though the county has filed for bankruptcy.

Hoover attorneys have filed an objection in bankruptcy court. The county is trying to get out of a contract that refunds two and a half million dollars in tax money over 10 years to help with road improvements for the Ross Bridge Resort Project.

Hoover argues the contract cannot be rejected because the city held up its end of the bargain.

Prisoners ask for overcrowding lawsuit to be allowed, despite county bankruptcy

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- Some Jefferson County prisoners are hoping a judge will come to their rescue.

The inmates are asking a federal bankruptcy judge to allow their lawsuit against the county over prison overcrowding.

At the moment, the suit is one of many legal issues on hold since the county filed chapter nine.

The inmates argue the point of their lawsuit is mostly about getting relief, not money from the county.
