Legendary Shots crew scores another commercial deal

Legendary Shots, the group of seven teenagers who film themselves making nearly-impossible basketball shots in highly creative ways and and post those videos on YouTube, have agreed to another commercial deal. The Flip video camera commercial features the Legendary Shots’ successful attempt to shoot a basketball from the top of an Alabama Adventures Space Shot ride through a hoop on the ground 158 feet below. That shot was captured on a Flip, a small hand-held "shoot and share" video camera, and the Flip company is now using the video to promote its product.

The members of Legendary Shots are almost all high school seniors from Hoover, with one Pelham and one Spain Park student among the bunch. Their trick basketball shot videos have been featured in four international Hampton Inn commercials, ESPN's SportsNation, SportsIllustrated.com and Yahoo's homepage.

In July 2010, Fox 6 caught up with five of the Legendary Shots members to find out how they went from filming unlikely shots in a driveway to producing viral videos of record-breaking shots from Birmingham landmarks. Click here for the in-depth interview and footage of some of their earliest stunts.

The Legendary Shots’ Facebook page says that they have more than 14,900 subscribers to their YouTube account and more than 10 million total video views, with an average of 14,250 views a day. Their most popular video, called “The World’s Farthest Basketball Shot” has more than 5 million views and shows one of the team members sinking a basket from the top of Vulcan. They believe it is the farthest shot ever made with a direct distance from the shooter to the goal estimated to be 205-228 feet.

In August, FOX 6's Janice Rogers interviewed two of the Legendary Shots stars on Good Day Alabama, John Massey from Pelham High School and Carson Stalnaker from Hoover. Find out how they came up with ideas for their creative trick baskets and what shots are planned next by watching this video.

Two of the most recent stunt shots took place at the Talledega Superspeedway and from a hot air balloon above Birmingham's Railroad Park. To see their full collection of videos, visit or subscribe to their YouTube account.
