Sale of camellia notecards fund Governor's Mansion restoration project

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Legislative Club, made up of spouses of the Alabama Legislature, is joining forces with the Friends of the Governor's Mansion and Department of Archives and History in the restoration of the Governor's Mansion.

Two artists in the club, Ruth Brewbaker and Pat Vance, each presented two paintings of the state flower, the camellia, that the group has turned into notecard prints. Brewbaker's watercolors and Vance's oil paintings are featured in a box of 20 notecards that is embossed with the Alabama state emblem. The club members are selling the boxes for $20 each with the proceeds going toward the creation of a storage room at the Governor's Mansion.

Jan Newton, President of the Alabama Legislative Club, says First Lady Diane Bentley has been leading the historical renovation of the mansion and wanted to address the lack of storage for state silver, crystal and china.

Bayside reminisces on firsts and looks to the future

Bayside reminisces on firsts and looks to the future

After a four year hiatus from Alabama, for no reason in particular, Bayside finally returned to grace Birmingham's music scene with their undeniable presence.  The New York natives have been making their way toward the east coast alongside punk rock band Alkaline Trio.

While Zydeco was one of the smaller venues they've played, Bayside founding member Anthony Raneri says he doesn't discriminate; he appreciates all shows, whether it be festivals, amphitheaters or a hole in the wall venue.

Back in October, Bayside released a covers EP titled, Covers, Vo. 1.  Raneri says they had the fans in mind when they decided to go forth with a cover album.

"We knew it had been a little while since we released our last record and we knew it was going to be a little while before we released the next one, so it was something to get to the fans," he said.
