New Farmer's Market Locations Begin in 2012 | Events
Title (Max 100 Characters)
A few years ago, Birmingham residents only had a few options for a local farmer's market - the Alabama Farmers Market on Finley Avenue and the Pepper Place Market. Our renewed focus on locally grown foods and products is reflected by the number of options available to residents seeking an outdoor market. Whether it's our insatiable desire for Saturday morning entertainment, delicious vegetables, visiting with friends or watching a chef demonstration, the Birmingham Farmer's Market schedule delivers!
In 2012, we welcome at least two new opportunities (new locations and new times) for you to purchase local produce. On Wednesday afternoons from 4pm-6pm, Railroad Park will host a market and, beginning May 24th, Urban Cookhouse will host a market at The Summit (280) on Thursdays from 3pm-7pm. In addition to these locations, Pepper Place Market is already open to the public on Saturday mornings and more local markets will open in May. Check out this list of Birmingham Farmer's Markets.
Before heading to the market, check out the Top Ten Tips for Shopping the Local Markets so that you are fully prepared and can maximize the experience. Markets are a great opportunity to teach your children about vegetables but also colors, names, shapes and science. Birmingham markets also provide excellent live music, art, kids activities and chef demonstrations so it's a free, playdate for the entire family.
