JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- A class-action suit filed by Jefferson County sewer customers to try and cancel some of the county's debt is on life support Wednesday night.
This morning the federal judge in charge of the county's bankruptcy told the ratepayer's attorney he will give them one more chance to file their complaint correctly.
That complaint says that three of the county's bond deals should be voided because the people involved in creating them have been convicted of crimes.
The ratepayers claim if those three deals were voided, the county debt would be cut in half and Jefferson County could get out of bankruptcy much faster.
