Ramp to I-65 North to be closed soon | News
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
If you travel along I-65, your morning commute could be a little longer over the next few days.
As early as Monday, the Alabama department of Transportation will shut down the Highway 31 ramp to I-65 north in Vestavia Hills. Officials say you can expect some major delays in that area.
It is the next phase of an ongoing construction project on both sides of I-65 in the Hoover-Vestavia Hills area. ALDOT says not only is the ramp in bad condition, the construction is part of a bigger project to improve I-65 overall. If the weather cooperates, it will take eight days to finish.
Commuters say, while they agree the interstate needs major upgrades, they are not happy about traffic possibly getting worse.
"My question is: is it absolutely necessary at this time to do an 8 day thing? No way to space it out?" says driver Nathan Trussell.
"At least do it in the wee hours of the night when people are sleep instead of the busy working when people are trying to get back and forth to work, kids to school," says motorist Dana Monford.
Once the ramp is closed, the detour route will take drivers to I-459 north by the Riverchase Galleria to gain access to I-65 north.
We have posted the detour information for you in the "South Jefferson Community" section of this website.
