The Jefferson County Board of Education has named this year's winners of the Teacher of the Year contest. The winners were announced at a banquet at the Carraway-Davie House and Conference Center Monday night. Julie Ramsey from Fultondale Elementary School won the Elementary Division and Joe Turner from Mortimer Jordan High won the Secondary Division.
In all there were five elementary finalists which included Kim Brodie of Center Point Elementary, Julie Ramsey of Fultondale Elementary, Tammy Parker of Oak Grove Elementary, and Allyson McCombs of Warrior Elementary.
The five secondary finalists included Joseph Turner of Mortimer Jordan High, Phyllis Clay of Shades Valley High, Cindy Gray of North Jefferson Middle, Suzanne Freeman of Pleasant Grove High, and Jessica Shavley of Oak Grove High.
All the finalists were nominated by their peers. The winners will now go up against winners from the other districts in Alabama.
